Heart of the New Thought, 1902
Published in Paperback by Kessinger Publishing Company (April, 1999)
Author: Ella Wheeler Wilcox
Average review score:

A gem of a book
Thank you Kessinger Publishing for this reprint of Ella Wheeler Wilcox's book, Heart of the New Thought, originally published in 1902! It is a real gem! As the publisher points out, the backbone of her philosophy is The Power of Right Thought, an ageless topic.

The concepts in her book are incredibly simple. But therein lies their complexity. In her first "thought" she writes: the young men of France are studying alchemy, hoping to learn the secret of the transmutation of gold. But if you will study your own spirit and its limitless powers, you will gain a greater secret than any alchemist ever held; a secret which shall give you whatever you desire.

Now that is some promise! And with serious, repetitive "thought work," it is possible. Ms. Wilcox explains why we need to control our thoughts and how we can achieve this. She describes various facets of the mind and how it is used to heal or to maim. But do not be tricked by the refreshing simplicity of her writings, nor put off by her sometimes stern manner. Each word is worth its weight in gold.

This book is like a chat with a good friend. Its words speak directly to the heart and urge us to be just a little more us. You will find that you turn to the book for inspiration, wisdom, companionship... Its words can be read over and over and each time yet another facet (of yourself) revealed.

Ms. Wilcox jars our thinking, and challengs us to become who we really are. At the same time she makes us laugh at ourselves and our gullibility. Forget about complaining, there are no obstacles, why worry...Remember, Man is what he thinks. And she repetively reminds us of this as well as of our own Divinity. Powerful stuff indeed!

Ernest Holmes drew on her teachings in his creation of the Science of Mind Philosophy. Perhaps that is from whence comes the famous Science of mInd motto, Change your thinking, change your life! Think about it! It is that simple!

A bedtime must-have!
I started reading this to my daugther when she was 8 weeks old. She has enjoyed it from the beginning. The language is simple and easy to read. Now that she is over a year old, she still enjoys it as she notices something new in the illustrations everyday. It is a bedtime must have in our home.

Here Comes the Bride
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (June, 1996)
Authors: Marie Orgera and Jody Wheeler
Average review score:

Here Comes the Bride for Preschool
This is a wonderful book for the bride to give a flower girl. It's also a great book for the preschool child who will be going to or involved with a wedding. Very simple but informative so that she knows what will be going on and is more likely to behave as she should. It is, after all, the bride's day and not that of the flower girl and this puts it all in perspective in a very nice way.

His Face: Images of Christ in Art
This is a phenominal book! I bought it in 1996 as an X-ms gift and got one for myself. The pictures are stunning and depict the variety of images we know and love as Christ from the ages. It is my favorite coffee-table book, and off-season, it keeps my bible company. Out of print now, it is well worth the higher price of a used edition. All glory to him!

History of Brunswick, Topsham and Harpswell Maine Including the Ancient Territory Known As Pejepscot
Published in Paperback by Heritage Books (September, 1989)
Authors: George Augustus Wheeler and Henry Warren Wheeler
Average review score:

Excellent historical reference for these towns
This is an excellent reference guide to placenames, geneaology, streets, and early title chains for these three communities. In addition, it is full of anecdotes regarding colonial life in Mid Coast Maine from the late 17th century almost to the end of the 19th century. Published in 1877-8, it is surprisingly accurate in its portrayal of events which took place two hundred years before. Most of the information comes from the records of the Pejepscot Proprietors, a group of wealthy men who had the grants from the King necessary for selling property to settlers. This book has been my best aid for framing out the history of a parcel or area of land in any of these towns. As a Professional Land Surveyor, I could not work in my field and have the most complete information in my files without it. Home Brewing-The Camra Guide
Published in Paperback by Chautauqua Inc (December, 1994)
Authors: Graham Wheeler and Kate Mahaffey
Average review score:

Excellent primer for the home brewer, novice or expert.
I found Graham Wheeler to be both very informative and interesting to read. His book "Home Brewing" took me through the fundamentals (and complexities) of home brewing beer as well as the history of English ales. This book is written well for experimenting home brewer. He filled it with information necessary to develop your own recipies using beer kits, malt extracts, and full grain mashing. The formulas in this book are essential for predetermining the alchohol content, color, body, and bitterness of your creations. He has included about 75 receipies, but I wouldn't consider this a receipie book. For the most part, this is an idea book. You know, get an idea from the receipie, modify it to your tastes, modify it again for the ingredients you have available, do a little math to assure yourself that this is what you want to brew, and go from there. Oh, about the math, I suggest you sharpen your algebra pencil when you use his formulas to create your own receipies. I highly recommend this book for anyone getting into home brewing, Graham Wheeler does a great job of dispelling the mysteries of home brewing and replaces them with good, solid science.

In Search of Good Form: Gestalt Therapy With Couples and Families (The Jossey-Bass Social and Behavioral Science Series)
Published in Hardcover by Gestalt Inst of Cleveland Pr (September, 1994)
Authors: Joseph C. Zinker, Gestalt Institute Of Cleveland, and Gordon Wheeler
Average review score:

an enabling, supportive reference source for therapists
This book is packed, without being written to intimidate. Sections are clearly headed, inviting use of the book as a reference.

As my understanding and interests in gestalt therapy evolve, so do different sections strike me differently.

Zinker is a coach, who leans over my shoulder as I consider my approach to helping others. The tone is unequivocal: encouraging and articulate.

Zinker has been been immersed in the field to such depths that his writing shows evidence of integration of his findings. He covers gestalt therapy; a difficult topic to write about. He spells out his findings about working with families and does so in an aesthetic, almost spiritual.

Yet, I also find the book written with an intellectual rigour that invites revisiting. It's written in a can-do, leading edge manner.

Insider's Guide to Bali/With Map
Published in Paperback by Hunter Publishing, Inc. (June, 1989)
Authors: Bradley Winterton, Nik Wheeler, and Hunter Publishing
Average review score:

"REAL PARADISE FOUND ON EARTH "
The whole book from cover to back is filled with more information than most people will need, but, It's there when you need it. The map in the back pocket of the book was a great help for me on my travels there. The traveler's Tips section starting on pg. 197 is excellent for a complete rundown on everything the Island as to offer.

Bali is a must place to visit because of all the magnificent beauty Bali has to offer with it's lush tropical rain forests, Volcanos touching the clouds, beautiful sunsets, temples, and the whole Balinese culture that inhabits this Tropical Paradise.

To sum it up, one couldn't ask for anything more except for this book and "Don't forget to take it with you".
